Words are not enough. We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Erik-Jan.
From the moment he first arrived at De Ereprijs, he was part of our DNA. His dedication, curiosity, and warmth inspired us. At Ereprijs, we look back with gratitude on the time he shared with us. In the last months, we have enjoyed his enormous dedication, his distinctive style, and his passion in our rehearsals and concerts. During our recent tour in Toronto, he gave a beautiful performance of the Canadian premiere of Hajiani Reality Music No. 1 by Reza Vali.
He was a passionate musician who not only elevated professional ensembles to a higher level but also instilled the same passion in amateur music.
Erik-Jan was a pioneer and true ambassador of contemporary repertoire, which he performed as a specialist on the saxophone. His expertise spanned all saxophones, from sopranino to tubax, and he mastered all musical genres and playing styles.
A great, beloved musician and a fine man has passed away suddenly. We miss him dearly.
