23 February 2020 | Opening Concert YCM | CODA, Apeldoorn

The Arnhem Philharmonic Orhestra and orkest de ereprijs join forces as RKST21 to discover the future of classical music.

During this edition, RKST21, under the direction of Clark Rundell, performs compositions by upcoming composers and veterans of contemporary music: challenging, unexpected, but above all very recognisable.

Music of today and tomorrow
Classical music but then different: we hear elements from pop, folk and jazz. RKST21 brings an ode to Dutch greatness and musical precursor Louis Andriessen. We hear Vermeer Pictures from 2005, a work for two pianos and a large ensemble.

Composers of today
It cannot be more contemporary and up-to-date: Ed Bennett, commissioned by The Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra, wrote new work especially for this ensemble, with soloist soprano Caroline Cartens. In addition, a new work by a Theater & Film composition student will premiere on Saturday 22 February, which will also be performed during this Opening Concert YCM.
