11 September | Personal Cultures | Gaudeamus Festival

Orkest De Ereprijs has invited composers to write new music that connects genres and generations. With these new compositions for Orkest De Ereprijs, they offer an in-depth insight into backgrounds and provenances. Listeners of different cultures and traditions meet here in a flurry of new musical fusions. This series by De Ereprijs generates new connections across times and cultures.

Personal background, just like with all of us, is unavoidable for a composer. But how does it affect his or her work? The Ereprijs commissioned six composers to compose an answer to the question: “where did this come from?”. The pieces in this program embody their personal connection to a musical culture. De Ereprijs will perform these compositions on the last day of the Gaudeamus Festival.

Innovation and progress come from the bottom up. That is why Gaudeamus presents, stimulates and supports the latest music by young music pioneers. We do this through our annual festival, composition assignments, the Gaudeamus Award, concert series and residencies. For 75 years, Gaudeamus has introduced curious music lovers to the (composed) music of tomorrow: unheard of combinations of genres, fresh perspectives on concert practices and radical new inventions in the field of sound and stage art, without borders or limitations. For more information about the festival and Award, go to Gaudeamus.nl.
