RKST21 + Severin von Eckardstein
Homage to jazz legend Art Tatum
This century sounds different every time, the composers of our time prove: they constantly refresh your ears. This program by RKST21 is also diverse and adventurous, with Christiaan Richter's new piano concerto as the centerpiece. It is called muTaTum and the soloist is none other than master pianist Severin von Eckardstein. Other works include those by cross-pollinator pur sang Ted Hearne, veteran Martijn Padding and up-and-coming composers such as Livia Malossi.
Since his school days Christiaan Richter has been fascinated by Art Tatum, one of the best jazz pianists of all time, who was also greatly admired by classical icons like Igor Stravinsky, Sergej Rachmaninov and George Gershwin. Tatum was known for inventiveness and his exceptionally quick thinking and fingerwork. Richter virtuosically translates those qualities into his own idiom. RKST21 is the orchestra of the 21st century. Orkest De Ereprijs joins forces with various partners, this time with the Nationaal Jeugdorkest.
