Spiral Trio

Under the title Syntopia, Orkest De Ereprijs and the renowned Greek Spiral Trio explore the borderland between jazz, classical, and improvised music.

Introduced by Louis Andriessen's Songlines 1, the musicians seek adventure in new works under the title Syntopia, which the Spiral Trio brings along. 'Catchy themes, inspiring improvisations and solos you can't get enough of', says French Culturejazz about the trio. The orchestra and the trio seek dialogue in both fixed notes and unpredictable improvisations, thus discovering new horizons.

The relationship between Orkest de Ereprijs and composer Louis Andriessen, who passed away in 2021, goes back a long way. For years, De Ereprijs has consisted of the kind of musicians Andriessen could work with. Not afraid of experimentation and always powerful in their rhythmic pulse. Songlines I combines typical Andriessen elements with wonderfully swinging saxophone lines. A beautiful prelude to the adventure with the Spiral Trio.

About AARDLEK

Aardlek connects current themes with new compositions written on commission. Guests from various disciplines (including philosophy, design, literature, poetry, and science) share their ideas and questions with the audience and the composers present in an informal setting. Each series of concerts has a specific theme, and composers are invited to incorporate this theme into a composition from their own perspective. These composers are from different generations and often have different cultural backgrounds.
