Peter de Hoop
Peter de Hoop studied at the Arnhem Municipal Conservatory with Kees Blokker, where he obtained his master's degree (UM) in 1990. During this period, he first encountered contemporary music, partly through a project involving composer Theo Loevendie. It was deeply moving that you could play music by a composer and simply ask, "How would you like it?" This way of working remains unique, inspiring, and motivating to this day.
As a freelance trombonist, Peter has played as a substitute with various orchestras, including the Brabant Orchestra and the Gelders Orchestra. In 1997, he joined Orkest De Ereprijs. He also plays in the ska band The Scattered Lights and the jazz-funk quartet Chamberfunk. He teaches at Phoenixcultuur in Veghel and currently teaches over 30 trombone students of all ages.
Peter finds the combination of performing musician and teacher ideal. On the one hand, there's the challenge of playing new music with the honorary prize, and on the other, there's the contact with students and the challenge of getting them excited about the trombone and music.
