Sjoerd Pauw
Sjoerd Pauw has been a trumpet player with Orkest De Ereprijs since 2007. He studied in Arnhem with Tonnie Kievits, principal trumpet player at Phion. Sjoerd is a permanent member of the brass quintet KWIVR, part of Muziekvoorstelling.nl. This quintet specializes in creating youth theater productions. In recent years, they have performed several shows: "Lichterlaaie" (Light Laaie), a show for children aged 8 and up about a young boy named "bakzeun" (played by Sjoerd) who has to keep the barracks from catching fire; in the show "Talking with your ears closed," the quintet uses the bizarre and humorous poems of Edward van der Vendel. "Wat niemand weet" (What Nobody Knows), a show based on the book of the same name by Tonke Dragt, has been running for almost 10 years.
Besides modern trumpet, he also plays the baroque trumpet, playing the solo parts in major choral works such as Georg Friedrich Händel's Messiah and Johann Sebastian Bach's Hohe Messe. He also performs as a substitute with Phion, among others. He has also participated in various projects by Merlijn Twaalfhoven. As a teacher, he is active through Kunstwerk Het Musiater for "Meer Muziek in de Klas," the project to teach music to all primary school children, a project supported by Queen Máxima, among others.
