24 February 2024 | Andriessen Festival | Musis Arnhem

On Saturday, February 24, together with Musis & Stadstheater Arnhem, Orkest De Ereprijs presents the sixth edition of the annual Andriessen Festival! An inspiring program full of contemporary music in the footsteps of composer Louis Andriessen will be heard all day in Musis.

Louis 85 tribute & music of today
from nineteen fifty-seven to two thousand and three and beyond

Orkest De Ereprijs & Guests
This special Louis 85 edition features music from different periods of Andriessen's compositional practice:
'Elegy,' 'Nuit d'été' and 'Series' are youth pieces from 1957-1958. 'Facing Death,' 'Choral I, II' and 'Lied' are from the 1990s. 'Haags Hakkûh Stukje' from 2003 and even the rare performance of 'Calls,' a duet for horns.

Great musicians perform these pieces in the afternoon and evening program:
Maat Saxophone Quartet; James Oesi, double bass; Sandee/Van Nieukerken piano duo;
Elisabeth Hetherington, soprano; Schouten|Courtois|Janssen Trio.

And as in every edition of the festival, the newest music will be presented as well!
RKST21 (Orkest De Ereprijs and guests) will play two premieres by Ruud Roelofsen and Katherine Teng.
Furthermore, the works of Yannis Kyriakides, Martijn Padding, Calliope Tsoupaki, Nuno Lobo, A. Crespo Barba and Boris Bezemer.

Andriessen's search for and compositions for unconventional instrumentations created an ensemble tradition that encourages adventurous and unexpected forms of written music. To explore the future of classical music, Orkest De Ereprijs and guests join forces under the name RKST21. Andriessen influenced many composers in different ways. During this festival, we give a stage to all these different approaches to music today and we celebrate the work of Louis Andriessen.

Yannis Kyriakides – Elisabeth Hetherington – Sandee/Van Nieukerken Pianoduo
Maat Saxofoonkwartet – Louis Andriessen – Katherine Teng
